Product Groups

  • Updated

With Product Groups, you can easily group similar products together and share reviews. This feature is particularly helpful if you have a collection of related products that have received individual reviews, but you want to display those reviews on all of the products.

Key Notes

  • Group conditions are case-sensitive
  • Changes to groups can take up to 60 minutes to sync to your website. This applies to new groups and edits to existing ones.
  • Deleting a Product Group does not delete any reviews. The reviews are simply no longer shared between those products.

Important: Product Groups are display-only. Grouping changes how reviews are displayed on your storefront widget. It does not move reviews between products, and each review stays attached to the product that was actually purchased. Because of this, grouped reviews are not combined for Google Shopping, rich snippets and schema, or other off-site channels, which read the reviews individually attached to each product. See

Feature Overview

Product Groups is a useful tool that enables you to categorize your products into groups based on various criteria like category, brand, or type, and share reviews for these similar products across all product pages in that particular group.

For example, a clothing brand that sells the same dress in multiple lengths may want to group those products together to share reviews on all product pages. Or, a home goods brand that sells the same pillow in multiple colors may want to group all of the pillows to show the same reviews on every page, regardless of color.

How to Create a Product Group in Stamped Using Product IDs

  1. In your Stamped dashboard, navigate to Settings - Groups
  2. Click on Add Group to create a new group.

  3. Using the Action dropdown menu, click Add Condition to add new products to this group, or click on View to see the products in an existing group

  4. Fill in the text box with the first Product ID you'd like to use in this group (if you're not sure where to find your product IDs, check out our guide linked here)
  5. Select Add Another Condition to add a new product, and repeat this process until you've added all the required products for your group

  6. Hit Save, and then your product group is ready to go!

What to expect: allow up to 60 minutes for the group to sync. After that, each grouped product's page displays the shared reviews from the rest of the group, and the star rating badge and review count on those pages reflect the combined total. The reviews themselves remain attached to the products they were written for, and nothing changes in your Reviews list. If a product's page still shows only its own reviews after an hour, check the inclusion column described below.

Inclusion and Exclusion Logic for Multi-directional Syncing

To efficiently manage reviews for bundled products, consider using product groups. By doing so, reviews for the bundle will be displayed on the product pages of the individual items that are part of the bundle. This only applies if you create your product groups using product IDs.

You will see an additional column in the group settings that allows you to customize this:

  • Checkmark (✓): Reviews shared from the group will be shown on the product page
  • X (x): Reviews shared from the group will be hidden on the product page

In the below example, reviews from all the product IDs with a checkmark (✓) will be shared with product 7066502725794, while the rest of the products with an X (x) in the group will show their individual reviews:

Grouping by Other Identifiers

In addition to using Product IDs to create your groups, you can also use Product Title and Product SKU:

  • Product Title

    • Product titles that contain/equal to the value entered will be included in the grouping:

    • Note: For the star rating badge to be updated with the groups that use product title, the following attribute must be included in the codes:
      • data-product-title="##productTitle##"
      • For Shopify users, ##productTitle## can be replaced with {{product.title}} instead
      • If using Shopify 2.0 Block installation method, no changes are required for grouping by product title
  • Product Type

    • Not currently available. Grouping by Product Type is unavailable while our team works on it. Please use Product ID, Title, or SKU for your product groups in the meantime. We will update this guide when it returns.
    • When available, product types that contain/equal to the value entered are included in the grouping:

      • Note: For the star rating badge and main review widget to be updated with the groups that use product type, the following attribute must be included in the codes:
        • data-product-type="##productType##"
        • For Shopify users, ##productType## can be replaced with {{product.type}} instead
        • If using Shopify 2.0 Block installation method, no changes are required for grouping by product type

  • Product SKU

    • Product SKUs which contain/are equal to the value entered will be included in the grouping

    • Note: For the star rating badge and main review widget to be updated with the groups that use product SKU, the following attribute must be included in the codes:
      • data-product-sku="##productSKU##"
      • For Shopify users, ##productSKU## can be replaced with {{product.selected_or_first_available_variant.sku}} instead
      • If using Shopify 2.0 Block installation method, no changes are required for grouping by product SKU

Product Groups and Google Shopping

A common follow-up question: "I grouped my pack sizes, so why does Google still show each product's own review count?"

Product Groups are a storefront display feature. Stamped's Google Product Ratings feed submits each review against the product it was written for, so grouping does not combine ratings on Google, in rich snippets, or on any other off-site channel. Two options depending on what you need:

  • To share star ratings across variants or pack sizes on Google (recommended): add a matching item_group_id to those offers in your Google Merchant Center product feed, using your ecommerce platform's product ID. Google then treats those offers as one product group and can share ratings across them.
    • Note that item_group_id is set in your Merchant Center product data, not in Stamped, and it is not a supported column in the Stamped product catalog import.
  • To genuinely consolidate reviews onto one product: reassign the reviews to that product instead of grouping. Reassignment moves the review, so it counts toward that product everywhere, including Google and schema. Use this when you have merged or replaced products, rather than for variants you want to keep listed separately.
