Follow this guide to customize the template, subject line and content of your review request emails.
Key notes
- Edit everything here under Settings > Customize > Reviews > Email Sequence.
- Your sequence can hold up to four emails, and each one has its own subject and message. Editing the first email does not change your follow-ups.
- The Message field controls only the paragraph of copy in the email. Form labels below it, such as the review title prompt and the star rating labels, are configured elsewhere. See What you cannot change here.

Email template
Choose the email template that best fits your branding and design.
- In the Stamped dashboard, go to Settings > Customize > Reviews > Email Sequence
- Select your preferred layout under the Layout drop-down box
- If you create custom designs using the Layout Editor, you'll find your saved templates here as well
- To preview your email, toggle between desktop & mobile and click Send Test
About Send Test: it is the fastest way to check your layout, wording and images. It is not a real order, so anything that depends on order or customer data, such as the product image or a Liquid condition based on the customer's locale, may not resolve the way it will in production. To confirm those, place a matching test order.
Email subject
- In the Stamped dashboard, go to Settings > Customize > Reviews > Email Sequence
- Change the text in the textbox under Subject
- Click Save
Email message
- In the Stamped dashboard, go to Settings > Customize > Reviews > Email Sequence
- Change the text in the text box under Message
- Click Save
This paragraph of copy appears above the product image and review form. It is the part of the email that sounds like you, so it is worth replacing the default wording with your own tone rather than leaving it as shipped.
Personalizing with merge tags and Liquid
You can pull customer and store details into the subject and message. Two syntaxes are supported and both work in the same fields.
Merge tags, the quickest option:
- ##customerName##: Name of customer
- ##shopName##: Shop name
- ##shopLogo##: Shop logo
- ##productImage##: Product purchased by the customer
- ##socialIcons##: Social media icons
Liquid variables give you more control, including conditional content such as sending different copy per language or product. Click the HTML button in the message editor first; otherwise, your code is treated as plain text. See the Liquid Variable Reference for the full list, and Liquid Tips for worked examples.
Adjusting the product image size
- In the Stamped dashboard, go to Settings > Customize > Reviews > Email Sequence
- Click on Show All Settings located under the interval section of the page
- Use the Product Image Size dropdown to select the correct size
Editing your follow-up emails
Your review request sequence can include the initial email plus up to three follow-ups, and each is a separate email with its own Subject, Message and wait interval. Select the follow-up you want to change on the Email Sequence page and edit it the same way as above.
If your sequence is only sending one email, it is worth adding follow-ups: a large share of reviews come from reminders rather than the first request. Customers who have already left a review stop receiving the rest of the sequence automatically.
See Review Requests: email sequence feature for setting up the sequence and its timings.
What you cannot change here
Three things merchants commonly look for on this page are configured elsewhere:
- The review form labels inside the email, such as the review title prompt, "how was your overall experience", the star rating labels and the recommendation question. These are edited at Settings > Customize > Reviews > Localization. See Customize the Localization of Review Requests.
- Colours and fonts, including button colours. These live under Display > Reviews Emails > Branding. See edit colours and font family.
- Extra questions on the review form. Add these at Settings > Customize > Reviews > Custom Forms, and toggle the recommendation question off under Options.
If you want a design that goes beyond the built-in templates, the Layout Editor lets you edit the email's HTML and CSS directly. Custom layouts you save there appear in the Layout dropdown alongside the standard templates. This route suits someone comfortable with HTML and CSS.
