Review Requests: Customize the Localization of Review Requests

  • Updated

The Localization settings control the wording of standard labels in your review request emails and on the review form customers fill out, such as star rating labels, the prompts above each field, and the recommendation question. Use them to translate those labels into your store's language, or simply to reword them. Follow this guide to learn more!

Key notes

  • Localization holds one set of text for your whole store. It is not per customer or per storefront language. To vary the language by customer, see Multi-lingual support.
  • It applies to the review request email and the review form. It does not translate your on-site review widget or the reviews your customers write.

What Localization controls

Language in Stamped is set in a few different places depending on what you are trying to translate. Checking this first will save you from hunting for a label that is not in Localization.

The review text customers write always stays in the language it was submitted in. Translating review content requires a third-party translation app such as Weglot or Langify.

Translating the labels in the review email

  1. In the Stamped dashboard, go to Settings > Customize > Reviews > Localization
  2. Edit each label's text to your preferred wording or language. You are editing the text itself, so you can translate it into any language.
  3. Click Save when you're done!

What to expect: your wording replaces the defaults for every customer, on the next review request sent and on the review form they land on. To check this, send yourself a test review request from Settings > Customize > Reviews > Email Sequence and open the form from that email.

Multi-lingual support

If you sell in more than one language, Localization alone is not enough, because it stores a single set of labels. Localizing a multi-language store takes two layers:

  1. The standard labels - translated here in Localization. Choose the language most of your customers read, since everyone shares this text.
  2. Your message copy and subject line -switched per customer based on the customer’s locale or country. On Shopify, and particularly with Shopify Markets, customer.locale is the more reliable signal because it reflects the language the customer actually purchased in.

For Liquid, including multi-language examples and how to translate the subject line, see Review Requests: Liquid Tips.
