Stamped's Referral Modal widget prompts customers to refer a friend outside of your Loyalty launcher or dedicated rewards page. It appears as a pop-up on your online store, so customers can share a referral without having to hunt for your rewards page. Follow this guide to learn more!

How it works
- A signed-in customer browses your online store
- The pop-up modal appears, offering the option to share with friends and earn loyalty points, at the frequency you choose
- Customers can share via email, Facebook, X (Twitter) or with a direct link to their referral URL
Installation (Shopify)
Enable the modal through App embeds in your Shopify theme editor:
- In Shopify admin, go to Online Store > Themes, then Customize on your live theme.
- Open the App embeds panel and find Referral Modal.
- Toggle it on.
- Set Show frequency. This defaults to Do not show, so the modal will not appear until you change it. Choose either:
- Show only once to each customer
- Show once daily
- Optionally set your background image, colours, and the modal's text under Localization.
- Save the theme.
What to expect: once saved and the frequency is set to something other than "Do not show", a signed-in customer sees the modal on your online store at that frequency, with their own referral link inside. If you are testing while signed out, or you left the frequency on "Do not show", the modal will not appear. That is expected, not a fault.
Where the modal can appear: the app embed runs on your online store pages. It does not run on Shopify's Thank you or Order status pages, which are part of checkout and can only be customized with checkout app blocks in the Checkout and Accounts Editor.
Previous method: Checkout > Additional Scripts (no longer supported)
Earlier versions of this guide asked merchants to paste widget code into Settings > Checkout > Additional Scripts to place the modal on the order confirmation page. That method no longer works and should not be used.
Shopify sunset checkout.liquid and Additional Scripts on the Thank you and Order status pages on August 28, 2025, and is removing the remaining script support for non-Plus stores on August 26, 2026. Shopify has also been automatically upgrading remaining stores off the legacy pages. If you still have the old Stamped referral modal snippet in Additional Scripts, it is inactive and can be removed. Use the App embeds method above instead.
Installation (all other e-commerce platforms)
- In the Stamped dashboard, go to Display > Widgets > Referral Modal
- Customize your widget if you'd like, then click Get Codes and then Copy Codes
- Take the code you've generated and paste it into your theme files or script manager to add to your desired location; this will depend on your e-commerce platform, so please consult your developer if you're unsure of where to place the codes
On platforms where you control the order confirmation template directly, you can place the code there to show the modal after purchase.
